Program
Ana Vaz is an artist and filmmaker whose practice crosses cinema, installation, and performative text. It is in the limbo of the contagion between historical-ethnographic elements and fictionalized speculations that her pieces dissect the destructive practices of our time and, perhaps, those yet to come. Deeply involved with colonial and environmental modernity, his films imprint sensorially charged experiences that test human perception, expanding it beyond itself to other forms of life.
It was in 2023 that Vaz began his series of film poems on the colonial history and future of different European capitals, screening his first chapter at the 24th Fondation Pernod Ricard Prize in Paris.
Now, the new chapter 'O que aconteceu ainda está porvir (What happened is yet to come)' is dedicated to the city of Porto and is on show at Solar - Cinematic Art Gallery, in partnership with Batalha Centro de Cinema and Circular Festival de Artes Performativas. The project is also expanding to the Vila do Conde Municipal Theatre, where there will be a performative reading led by the artist, entitled Lysboa, Paraguay, and screenings of four of her films: Occidente, Há Terra!, Apiyemiyekî?, and A Idade da Pedra. At Cinema Batalha, the short film Meteoro will also be screened, followed by a conversation with Ana Vaz and Isabel Carvalho.
