As part of this initiative, Curtas Metragens CRL offers four short film programmes available for rental, specifically designed for different age groups and suitable for the school context. These programmes allow schools to provide students with a meaningful cinematic experience, encouraging contact with contemporary cinema either in the classroom or through special school screenings.

The programmes available are:

• Curtinhas para Todos (ages 6+) – A fun and imaginative programme exploring emotions, discoveries, and themes close to children’s everyday experiences;

• Amiguinhos (ages 3+) – Tender animated shorts that introduce the youngest audiences to cinema and visual storytelling;

• Curtas do Mundo – A selection of internationally awarded films by both emerging and established filmmakers, ideal for introducing students to the cultural and artistic diversity of world cinema;

• Novas Curtas Portuguesas – A vibrant showcase of national creativity, presenting new voices and perspectives in contemporary Portuguese cinema.

These programmes are complemented by parallel initiatives led by schools, film clubs, and cultural associations, as well as solidarity screenings and television broadcasts, extending the spirit of The Shortest Day to a wide range of audiences and platforms.

The Shortest Day is more than an event — it is a celebration of accessible cinema and an invitation to discovery, emotion, and the power of stories told in just a few minutes. In December, short films once again light up screens — including in schools.
