As part of the 31st Curtas Vila do Conde, the Curtinhas programme includes, in addition to the films in competition, workshops for the youngest and the 'Playing at the Cinema' space, closing with the film 'Elemental'.
Curtinhas is a mini-festival within Curtas Vila do Conde - which is an extension of the ANIMAR programme, promoted annually by Solar Galeria de Arte Cinemática and the Curtas CRL Education Service - designed for children and families.
The Curtinhas programme includes competitions in three age groups - M/3, M/6, M/9 - whose winners are chosen by an attentive and demanding jury made up of a group of 10 children aged between 8 and 12.
At the end of the programme and after the awards ceremony, Peter Sohn's Elemental will be screened, the new Disney/Pixar original animated feature film that follows the unlikely duo of Ember and Wade in the City of Elements, where the inhabitants of fire, water, earth and air live together.
Throughout the festival, ANIMAR - Serviço Educativo is running the children's space Playing at the Cinema. On the 1st floor of the Vila do Conde Municipal Theatre, there is a permanent programme of short-term workshops for children aged 4 to 12 - timed to coincide with the film screenings, allowing festival-goers to attend the screenings - under the guidance of a team of trainers.
On the second weekend of the festival, there are three themed workshops organised by partner organisations.
